The pharmacological treatments used to treat psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia or depression have undergone amazing development since the 1950s, and the drugs used to treat these disorders provide clues to what is happening in the brain of individuals with these conditions. Psychopharmacology is the study of how drugs affect how we think, feel, or behave most often through their actions on the nervous system. When declaring his intentions to run for president in the 2008 election, Keyes said that he had been “unmoved” by the “lack of moral courage” displayed by the other candidates and that he would attempt to “raise the standard … of our allegiance to God and his authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation’s life.” During his 2004 Senate campaign, Keyes sparked controversywhen he attacked his opponent, Barack Obama, on religious grounds. Religion and morality have been central issues of Keyes’ campaigns for public office.
