- The sequence with Elena trying to break through as Mia finished the spell was really well done - Flashbacks! Fire!.- Stefan and Caroline! Stefan punching Tyler! Stefan being lovely and funny to Caroline! These two are totally the best. Then he pointed out that Klaus killed his mom. - I admit, at first I thought Tyler was being a bit unreasonable, considering how many times he's ditched Caroline.- One thing this show does really well is squelchy noises when people are stabbed.- Katherine trying to get Stefan to say how upset he was about her death and getting no joy - ouch. This is my, 'You're being a dick face'." I love Damon and Stefan being proper bros. - "Quit giving me pouty face." "I'm not giving pouty face.- "Elena and Damon, Damon and Elena - I know there's a nickname in there somewhere." Nice.- "The nicest thing Katherine Pierce will ever do is feed the maggots that feast upon her flesh." Safe to say Damon isn't a fan.- I bet that is the least fun Katherine has ever had being handcuffed to a bed.- "Who do I like better, Bonnie or Caroline? Please say Caroline.".- I'm glad the writers made the decision to place Katherine and Matt's encounter at the beginning of the episode as a flash forward - it was a super fun way for the instalment to begin. But for now, I can't wait for Katherine to have some fun - and for Damon to take us to some very disturbing places. I mean God, will Elena ever be back? Well, yes, obviously. So while this season of The Vampire Diaries hasn't been as tight as years gone past, it seems like it might now be finding its feet - and with some very interesting results. I'm all for it - the moment when he popped out his fangs and smirked was joyful. The heartbreak he felt when Katherine so carelessly tossed him aside was truly awful, and it's understandable that with nothing to keep him on the straight and narrow - and the coincidental arrival of a bloodthirsty and troublesome Enzo - he's going to go to some very dark places. It feels like it's been a while since we've seen bad Damon - Paul Wesley's been having all the fun with Stefan - but I can't wait to see where his dastardly nature is going to take him. This is a nice contrast to all those times that disaster has been averted just in time - in this case, chaos reigned just in time. Until she completed the process, though, Elena put up a brave battle to fight through and in one moment that I particularly enjoyed, she ran into Damon's arms with relief, only for the spell to be finished and Katherine to snap back just in time. I honestly can't rave enough about her.Īnyway, the main plot of the episode followed Katherine's attempts to take over Elena's body permanently - something she has now managed thanks to Mia, a "loose end" she later slaughtered with nary a sliver of doubt. And that's without even mentioning the fact that she also had to play Elena breaking through and - in a new twist - Elena pretending to be Katherine. That she can slip between the two characters - recognisably - is a credit to her. One of my favourite, tiny little moments of the episode was when she was Katherine and insisted that she's experienced in pretending to be Elena, slipping into her habits for just a few words before snapping back with an eye roll. But getting back to Katherine, and we really do have to congratulate Nina Dobrev, who put in a virtuoso performance this week.
